The Fork Cross Country Course

The Fork Cross Country Course

Crafted by professional jump builder, Travers Schick, Cross Country Hardware Supply, The Fork's cross country course is one of the country's finest, and undoubtedly the most environmentally aware tracks. It features beginner novice/novice schooling tracks and training through CIC*** levels competition tracks over carefully monitored turf with proper compaction ratio for galloping at advanced level speeds.

The designer and builder collaboration resulted in the development of jumping obstacles that champion the following principles:

1. Obstacle ‘themes’ that reinforced the multiple land use objectives of the rugged “Fork” estate property based upon owner’s vision, James W. Cogdell, to interweave and support equestrian sports, wildlife restoration and conservation, farming, extensive hiking and bridle trail network, rural landscape imagery/conservation, wetland restoration, environmental education programming, hunting reserve acreage, and sport shooting facilities.

2. Utilization of many massively scaled moveable jumping obstacles to facilitate yearly competition course design changes, and versatile re-arrangement of obstacles for schooling and clinic events.

3. A showcase of some of the North Carolina native rural building crafts and history (e.g., heavy timber framing techniques; rustic and bold field stone masonry; stout log forms, civil war history, etc.)

The jumps include turkey feeders, canoes, a water complex, fences that resemble tree branch "forks," (echoing the property's name), and dry stack stone obstacles that repeat the stone foundations of the stable and guest house.
